Why New Website Fails To Deliver Instant Marketing

Something that stands out when creating websites for small businesses and startups is the problem of expectations. More specifically, marketing expectations.

Many (but not all) customers who hire us to create a new website expect it to be a ready-to-use all-in-one marketing machine. It attracts many new customers, appears at the top of Google for the right words, attracts many visitors and so on.

In fact, I can see that this is a reasonable expectation, especially for those who are in unknown territory. But I have to explain every time it's an unrealistic expectation. Your new website does not offer instant marketing. It's that simple.


Is not that exactly what a website should do? 
Well yes. But no. This is a difficult distinction that I must admit, but nonetheless important. Yes, a good website should attract a lot of new customers, be at the top of Google and attract a lot of visitors, etc. However, these do not come only from the initial design and are therefore not solely due to the company.

Creating and creating a website is just the beginning. We always design and build them in the best way possible, which puts them on the right path to marketing, and probably more than most web designers. But in reality, websites are never finished. 

Not only is it important to start well, but the continuous journey is just as important.
Websites Need Continued Effort
Like traditional marketing, websites need ongoing efforts to keep them effective while we live in an era where things change so fast. It means doing things like updating and improving the content at least 3-4 times a year (but more is better), improving SEO, and generally checking how well it fits the purpose . All of these things that we can of course help and love, are viewed from a business point of view as continuous work.
